Make a plan or be spontaneous — either way is fun!
By Laura Baird
When thinking about activities in our area, and there are plenty to choose from, do you meticulously search and decide, map and plan? Or are you the type of person whose vocabulary doesn’t include the words “strict itinerary?" Someone who is more spontaneous and up for anything on the spur of the moment?
Some time ago, I would’ve said I’m the planner; someone who needs to know when and where and for how long, well ahead of time, to make appropriate accommodations and adjustments. I was the one carrying everything, PLUS the kitchen sink if I could. But even ‘the best laid plans’ can go awry, so you roll with it. That’s when spontaneity is just what the moment calls for. And often, those moments bring reward and satisfaction; as well as a good time.
This summer, plan on seeing a car show [www.cruzinmag.com]. Watch the Cowlitz Black Bears in action on Story Field [opening home game Tuesday, 6/5]. Dance to the music of one of the many groups on a Thursday night at Lake Sacajawea [ci.longview.wa.us/parks_rec/] or St. Helen’s amphitheater [13nightsontheriver.com]. Become a library volunteer for the summer reading program in Longview (360-442-5300) or Cathlamet (360-795-3254.) Go for a swim or take a class at the YMCA (www.ymca.net.).
Find your balance between planning and being impulsive. But always find your fun!
